Case Studies - CCIntegration custom solutions
Case # 1
- Problem:
There were limitations in administrative staff, financial resources, and hardware engineering resources to launch and support their products.
- Solution:
In working with a company having only 12 employees, a part-time administrative person, and contract accounting services, CCIntegration identified the problems and complaints from internal sales team at the company. Based on this understanding and need CCIntegration utilized their web based B2B integration support tools to provide additional administrative resources. The sales team could them enter orders directly into the B2B site, orders were confirmed, the configuration was verified, orders were then communicated directly to the company CEO, approved, and shipped. As part of this process CCIntegration developed an automated process to activate the software licenses on each server when shipped and when evaluation units were returned the software was de-activate resulting in a net reduction in the number of active licenses required to support their business. The B2B software solution also maintained a bill of material for each server configuration that tracked the serial number of major components, software license installed, and location of the hardware at all times. This produced a virtual inventory portal that allowed the company CEO and CFO to see where all hardware and software assets are located. The management of the inventory and services provided were key to company’s growth and eventual acquisition. In addition to online data visibility, bi-Weekly reports were delivered to the CEO automatically as required. CCIntegration reduced their cost of operations, became an integral part of their sales support and inventory management team, and provided tools to allow their business to grow effectively.
Case # 3
– Problem:
The customer has unique products where all their server platforms standardize with the same type DVD ROM. The customer has “CD recovery” that is package with their product. Through testing all process steps in the development of a statement of work, CCIntegration found that the “CD Recovery” is read using the Serial Hyperterminal. The DVD ROM read the “CD Recovery” into the Linux Kernel… and after plugging into the serial hyperterminal an error is generated. The problem was reported to the OEM. In further failure analysis CCIntegration found the error was only generated when Teac DVD ROM units were used and not when Toshiba drives DVD ROM were used in the server. When isolated the problem was communicated to the OEM, and the OEM technical team was very helpful. They worked directly with Teac (DVD ROM Manufacturer) and provided us a firmware version that requires a Windows Operating System to be loaded, tested, and verified its operations.
At this stage it was determined that many units had been shipped to end customers in global locations; Taiwan, US and at the CCIntegration integration center. CCIntegration had 400 units that confirm were installed with Teac drives. Taiwan has 100 units, USA locations have 48 units and other international location end customer had 30 units with a DVD that would not load the recovery CD if needed. Since the servers were Linux based they could not load and install Windows OS update to patch the firmware at customer site. It appeared that a service technician would have to go onsite, where they would have to wipe the Linux OS image, load a Windows image and then update the firmware. This was not viewed as an acceptable solution. For 2 weeks the OEM technical team worked with the DVD manufacturer to develop a DOS version firmware program to install the patch. When the DOS program was delivered it did not work.
- Solution: CCIntegration engineer worked with the firmware to re-packaged it in a self extracting update using RAM disk. This avoided all the issues with the Microsoft Windows or DOS solution provided by the OEM and the DVD manufacturer. CCIntegration was able to deploy the solution worldwide using remote desktop tools and resolve the issue for the customer.
Case #2
- Problem:
A Customer was using “retail” software packages to create images that would be distributed with products. The application images should have been developed with Microsoft CLA embedded licenses.
- Solution:
The CCIntegration expertise and knowledge with Microsoft CLA embedded license requirement identified the problem. The customer created their software image using “retail” software packages. CCIntegration informed the customer of the legal requirements regarding the resale of Microsoft software and notified them that they must sign the CLA Agreement with Microsoft. The customer had spent valuable time to develop the image and this would have to be done again if the problem could not be corrected. CCIntegration offered to create the image for the customer with the proper media kit so new licenses can be activated in prior shipping to their end customer. The product is Microsoft Vitalization running with QuickCull applications. When the image was created CCIntegration released the product to the customer remotely so they could access it and install their application.
When that stage was completed the customer decided to do things differently because the person that was in charge with the build revision control is no longer with the customer. The new group of engineers assigned to the project wanted to use the MS Vitalization differently and the way their application updates would be issued. The CCIntegration Engineering staff team spent over 30 hours researching and assisting to get the appliance setup properly and the software processes operational. CCIntegration also provided complete documentation on the revised processes and methods to manage the image control, license activation and de-activation, and monitoring of revision control. These are samples of the depth of CCIntegration Engineering resources and ways they assist customers with technology issues, processes, and speeding their time to market.
